Welcome to my attempt at de-stressing!
As somebody who has taught for a quarter of a century in UK schools, I feel particularly qualified to talk about stress and relaxation (and my attempts to achieve that relaxed state of Nirvana)!
Maybe YOU have a particularly stressful job too.
I’m not a qualified massage therapist or aromatherapist, but I have tried many things to make my life less hectic and frantic.
Some attempts have been successful and some haven’t. In fact, if I’m being honest, I’d say that most ‘haven’t’.
Today’s workplace seems geared to ‘pulling the rug’ from under your feet. You work extra hard at the weekend to prepare for Monday, hoping that this will get the week off to a good start.
What happens?
Somebody comes along and (very nicely) piles onto you a whole new mountain of paperwork or apologises because that new ‘initiative’ that seemed so exciting last month now needs to be brought forward and that 8-page review that you need to fill in (because YOUR views are valued!) has to be completed by tomorrow.
So much for that glass of wine in the garden after work. And it’s bloody SUNNY too!
Sorry, I’m getting stressed again
Back to reality…
This site is my attempt to chronicle my attempts at relaxation by looking into WHY we get stressed and HOW we can manage that stress.
The first stage is to realise that you actually ARE stressed. Not as easy as it sounds. I went for years without being aware of the build-up of stress in my head and body.
Everybody (family, friends, colleagues) want a piece of you and you just don’t want to let them down, do you?
Sounds familiar?
Relaxation is absolutely essential for our wellbeing and there are tools and people in the world who can help.
So, this is my quest to help YOU relax by providing information, tools, products and articles to de-stress.
Hopefully, I will provide practical, down-to-earth information that you can use immediately if you feel that your life is getting out of control.
If I find things that work, I’ll report back straight away.
As a musician and composer, I’ve even taken to writing my own brand of ‘relaxation music’.
If I find that it lowers my blood pressure and heart rate, I’ll share it with you all
Here’s to a happier, more relaxed and chilled-out YOU!
