Yoga Versus Pilates

My Yoga OnlineMy Online Yoga Journey

Even for a guy who runs a relaxation website, I still get stressed occasionally!

At the moment, I have to contend with aging/ailing parents, a stressful work situation and the weather’s rubbish as well!

On top of all that, I’m having physiotherapy for a bad lower back (I guess gravity is finally taking its toll!).

Anyway, my physio has given me some ‘pilates-type’ exercises for my back and I find them very useful. He also suggested trying a pilates class or even a yoga class.

Now… I’ve dabbled with yoga before, but never attended a class. Maybe it’s the area I live in, but there aren’t many guys joining the lycra-clad ladies down at the local gym!

I could have spearheaded a new male-driven yoga stampede… but I chickened out and looked for online yoga tuition!

Yoga Versus PilatesTurns out there are dozens of yoga and pilates classes available and I’ve finally joined what I feel is the best all-round website: My Yoga Online.

Why?

Well, after checking out all the alternative sites, I liked the fact that this website combines yoga with pilates and also throws in healthy living and relaxation music into the mix (sorry, the links go to a couple of my own websites… hey, I have varied interests and talents!).

I feel like I’m getting the best of both worlds: yoga to help me relax and pilates to help soothe my poorly back!

The videos are extremely high quality and I’ve just joined a beginners yoga program which comes in 8 modules (I’ve decided to have the modules emailed to me every 3 days but I could have chosen each day or even each week).

There are dozens of articles available to read and a thriving community where folks exchange tips and training advice and there’s even a mechanism for asking the instructors questions.

I’ve only scraped the tip of the yoga/pilates iceberg, but I’m sure this site will help me de-stress and build some flexibility into my aging bones. If you’re in a similar position to me, I suggest you at least check it out (click on either of the images at the top/bottom of this article).

In the meantime, keep checking back and I’ll report on my progress.

Namaste!

Alan
